Welcome to the Faculty of Education, Tribhuvan University !

Faculty of Education (FOE) was established as the College of Education in 1956 before the establishment of its mother institution, Tribhuvan University (TU) in 1959 in order to institutionalise teacher education programmes in Nepal. Since then FOE, as the leading institution in the field of teacher education and the largest faculty at Tribhuvan University in terms of the number of students and the affiliated campuses, has offered diverse educational programmes in a wider range of subject areas including science and information communication and technology education (ICT) education.  Our students graduate with sound theoretical knowledge and basic professional skills to become teachers, teacher educators, educational leaders and managers.

Faculty of Education (FOE) currently offers educational programs in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), Master of Education (M.Ed.), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education. Bachelors and Masters programmes are blended with the academic contents and professional courses. But these programmes have placed more emphasis on theory-oriented academic courses than professional skills. In the emerging context, FOE is committed to reinvigorating the quality of the teacher education programmes by blending the strong theoretical foundations with the sound pedagogical professional competence that include engaging and interactive pedagogy, instructional planning, material development, classroom management and evaluation. Practice Teaching/Practicum, being the most important feature of a teacher education programme, needs to be made rigorous to ensure pedagogical competence among the graduates.

The need of the hour is transformative teacher education programmes which can only promote quality of education at all levels of education. This is possible when the FOE’s programmes  are designed in the constructivist framework and they are reflective in professional practice. FOE is moving in that direction with the additional focus on professional teacher education programmes in collaboration with the government and non-government organizations. We invite you all to join hands with us as we proceed in this movement of revisioning the teacher education programmes in Nepal.  We know that this is a difficult task to immediately pave the new path in this new direction, but we believe that it can be done through our collective and organised efforts.

We, at the Faculty of Education, welcome your constructive feedback and suggestions to our reform initiatives and re-envisioning the teacher education programme.
